Meanwhile, my latest book, THE PICKTON FILE, available from Knopf Canada in your local bookstores, is a personal story of what it's been like to work on the Missing Women/Pickton story for the last five and a half years. It's also a guide to the case and introduces a large cast of characters including Pickton, his family and some of his friends - as well as prosecutors, defence lawyers and judges, victims' family members, support workers and the reporters and investigators who have become such an important part of this story. And it's full of pictures. I took most of them myself over the years; they introduce you to many of the people involved in the case, show you the infamous farm during different stages of the police search and show some of the other sites that have become part of this story. And there are several maps to guide you through the communities and the farm itself.
...Excerpt from THE PICKTON FILE "We had no idea [in 2002] how massive the investigation would be. We had no notion that the police would sift every inch of dirt on the Pickton farm, a process that lasted from the spring of 2002 to late 2004. We did not foresee the broad publication ban that would prevent any word printed or broadcast of what was being said in court in case it influenced a potential juror. We couldn't know that there would be, by 2006, 27 charges of first-degree murder against Pickton and that the police would continue to investigate him on suspicion of many other deaths. And we didn't know that the police and other personnel involved in the case, under threat of ruined careers, were forbidden to talk to reporters. In blissful ignorance, all I could do was begin…" PICTURES: And if you'd like to see some pictures of the opening days of the trial just click here.
